The RPS has added guidance to its original advice on the supply of specials (medicines). This includes advice on how to split or crush solid dose medication and which medicines should not be modified in this way. Guidance only available to members of RPS.

The RPS has issued practice guidance covering changes to the supply of medicines to podiatrists which came into force on the 1st July. In addition the guidance offers some notes on wholesale supply of medicines and how to identify and check the registration of a podiatrist. Guidance only available to members of the RPS.

The second edition of this guidance manual has been published by the DH.The bulk of the document(224 pages) relates to general provisions in the law, definitions, compliance, packaging, licensing and disposal, followed by sector guidance;pages 172 – 187 relate specifically to community pharmacies.

GPhC Consults: Pharmacist Education and CPD

The General Pharmaceutical Council has issued consultations on the following:
1. Standards for the initial education of pharmacists (for students studying in Great Britain)
2. Standards for education and training requirements for non-EEA pharmacists wanting to register in Great Britain
3. A new accreditaion methodology for courses leading to registration and annotation as a pharmacist in Great Britain
4. Draft Continuing Professional Development framework and Rules

DH Guidance on Access to Health Records

The Department of Health has published a 28 page guide on dealing with requests to access health records. It covers, for example, records for both living and deceased patients,the appropriate health professional to deal with requests, parental access and discosure in the absence of a statutory basis.
