RPS Consultation on Governance Regulations

Draft Regulations (made under the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Charter) are available for consultation until 15th December 2010. The Regulations replace previous Byelaws and Regulations of the former RPSGB (dissolved on 27th September 2010) and cover membership pf the RPS Assembly and National Boards, together with Codes of Conduct and governance procedures for members of RPS and of the Assembly and Boards.

Informal Consultation on Medicines Law

A further “informal” consultation on the review and consolidation of legislation on medicines under the Medicines Act was issued on 4th October. It largely seeks approval for decisions made as to whether to retain or drop the large number of exemptions in the subsidiary legislation. Consultation closes on 1st November 2010.

Physios and Podiatrists to Prescribe?

Working Draft Published for New Medicines Act

The MHRA has published a “working draft” of the progress made so far on consolidating reviewing the Medicines Act 1968 and its subordinate legislation. This is an “informal” consultation and views are invited by end September 2010. A formal consultation will follow in spring 2011.

MHRA to move

If you use the services of MHRA or wish to keep in touch with them you should note that from 8th October the agency will be relocating from Market Towers to 151 Buckingham Palace Road. The move should be complete by 1st November 2010.

Consultation on extension for Student Midwives

A consultation (MLX 371) has been issued to amend medicines legislation to allow student midwives access to the parenteral medicines which can be administered by registered midwives. Consultation closes on 19th November 2010.

Consultation on Support for EEA Prescriptions

A consultation (MLX 370) has been issued on how how current guidance can be expanded to provide additional support for community pharmacists when dispensing prescriptions from the EEA (European Economic Area). Consultation closes on 24th September 2010.

Advanced Therapy Medicines Regulations

New law (The Medicines for Human Use (Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products and Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2010 SI No 1882) comes into force on 19th August 2010. The regulations implement EU Regulation EC/1394/2007 concerning licensing and marketing conditions plus patient and product traceability for ATMPs. They also allow price lists for unlicensed medicines to be published and shared.

Consultation on FtP Adjudication

The DH has issued a consultation on “whether delivery of adjudication (for Fitness to Practise of health professionals) can be delivered more proportionately through other means (than through the Office of the Health Professions Adjudicator)”. Cases concerning FtP of pharmacists were likely to be brought under the OHPA within the next few years. This policy is being reviewed. Consultation closes on 11th October 2010.
